“This is not a book about technology. It is about the human decisions that determine whether AI strengthens your organisation — or exposes it.”

“Most organisations believe they have a decision-making problem. They’re right — but not in the way they think.”
— Dr Chris Stephenson
Staying in Charge in the Age of AI
AI is already making decisions in your organisation. Approving loans. Flagging risks. Allocating resources. Influencing strategy. The question isn’t whether to use it — it’s whether you’re governing it well enough to remain accountable when it goes wrong.
Decision Equilibrium gives boards and executive teams a practical framework for doing exactly that. Drawing on case studies from Robodebt, CBA, Qantas, NAB, and the ASX — and interviews with senior leaders across Australia’s largest organisations — Dr Chris Stephenson shows what happens when AI decision-making outpaces governance, and how to close the gap before a crisis forces the issue.
The framework rests on three pillars: decision ecosystems, governance structures, and strategic leadership. When all three are in balance, organisations can move fast with AI without losing control of what matters.
